This listing includes -10 (340674) and -8 (340675) options, so the best purchase depends on which drop the hitter can consistently control. These variants are different weights on the same family platform, not separate versions of a slowpitch bat. A developing player should prioritize getting the barrel to the ball on time rather than choosing a drop based on its reputation for power.

Black Onyx Composite and Balanced Swing Design

Mizuno's Black Onyx Carbon construction, cylinder seaming and double-wall barrel approach aim for a responsive hitting surface. The balanced swing profile is particularly useful when a player wants barrel coverage but struggles with heavily end-loaded bats. The actual feel still varies by size: a longer balanced bat can be harder to accelerate than a shorter model with a slightly heavier drop.

Dual Frequency Damper and Grip

The two-piece B25 uses Mizuno's Dual Frequency Damper between the composite barrel and handle to manage vibration and produce a controlled feel at contact. A Speed-Helix grip adds comfort and traction. This construction differs from a stiff one-piece alloy bat, particularly when the ball strikes away from the center of the barrel. Some players appreciate that separation; others prefer more direct impact feedback.

How Much Drop Is Right?

A 30-inch -10 has a nominal weight of 20 ounces, while the same length in -8 weighs 22 ounces. The two-ounce difference matters when a hitter is reacting to inside velocity or trying to keep the swing compact late in a game. The -10 is a more approachable starting point for a younger developing swing; the -8 suits someone who retains good bat speed with additional mass.
