The -10 drop gives younger and developing hitters enough barrel presence to feel the bat through the zone while still keeping hand speed high. As a two-piece composite, the Backlash2 is also built for a smoother feel at contact than a stiff one-piece design, which can be a real advantage for hitters who value comfort and barrel control.

How the Backlash2 -10 Should Feel

The biggest appeal here is balance. A -10 fastpitch bat has to be light enough to get around on velocity but substantial enough that the barrel does not disappear during the swing. The Backlash2 sits in that middle ground. Its two-piece construction should give the handle and barrel a little separation in feel, helping reduce harsh feedback on balls caught away from the sweet spot while still letting the hitter feel where the barrel is.

That makes this model a strong fit for contact-oriented hitters, players moving up from a lighter bat, and hitters who simply do not want an overly end-heavy swing. If you are comparing several composite options, our fastpitch softball bats collection makes it easier to look at different drops and constructions side by side.

Composite Break-In and Barrel Feel

Like other composite fastpitch bats, the Backlash2 can change in feel as the barrel is used. A new composite barrel can feel firmer at first, then become more responsive as it works through its normal break-in cycle. Players who do not want to spend hundreds of swings getting there can add our accelerated bat break-in service, which is designed to take a composite barrel through a controlled break-in process before it reaches the hitter.

For an overview of bat rolling, read 5 Things You Need to Know About Bat Rolling. The goal is not to turn the bat into something it was never designed to be; it is to move the composite barrel to its fully broken-in state in a controlled way.

Who Should Consider This Bat?

The Backlash2 -10 makes the most sense for hitters who prioritize swing speed, barrel control and a more forgiving two-piece feel. It is less about muscling the ball with a heavy barrel and more about getting the barrel on plane early and keeping it there. For players who like a lighter fastpitch bat but still want a substantial composite barrel, this is a logical profile to consider.

Modification Notice

Bat modification may affect eligibility for organized play. Modified bats are not represented as approved or compliant for sanctioned competition.
