At the center of the bat is Easton's TCT composite barrel, designed to create a large responsive hitting area while maintaining consistent barrel performance across the hitting surface. The two-piece construction pairs that barrel with Easton's ConneXion Max elastomer connection, helping isolate vibration while keeping the barrel and handle working together through contact.

The -5 configuration adds considerably more mass than the -8 and -10 versions of the Hype Fire. At the same length, a -5 weighs three ounces more than a -8. A 31-inch -8, for example, has a listed weight of 23 ounces. The same 31-inch bat in a -5 weighs 26 ounces. That three-ounce difference is substantial when it has to be accelerated through the hitting zone.

A player moving into a -5 should be able to maintain bat speed, timing, and control without noticeably changing their mechanics to compensate for the heavier bat.

For stronger and more physically developed travel-ball hitters, however, the additional mass can provide the heavier feel they want while preparing for the eventual transition into -3 baseball bats.
